The Fall Newsletter is ready! It always takes me much longer to write than I think it will! We have LOTS going on this fall so grab a cup of jo, open the newsletter, and peruse for that special class you want to take or block of the month you want to join. If you have any questions about anything, please just let us know! Also, we have samples or a color photo of our class items and blocks of the month so be sure to stop in and check them out! I would like to thank everyone who put up with the construction earlier this year and made the effort to get to our shop! Construction can break a small business but you have been most patient and we really, really appreciate it! With that in mind I need to tell you about more construction that has started in front of McDonalds when you come in to the village from I43 or Hwy 96. Right now I've been told that you can drive right through the construction zone even thought it says "Road Closed to Through Traffic". The construction is only a block long but it looks worse than it is! Just be sure to take it slow and watch for the guys with the STOP and SLOW signs. I will be talking to the head construction guy tomorrow and getting an update. I will keep our website up-to-date with any changes or detours so if you're planning a trip to the shop check our website to find out what the best way in is. Again, thank you so much for your patience during this crazy time! Well, that's it for now! Enjoy the newsletter - We hope you find something that inspires you! Sue and the Staff of Kindred Spirits Quilt Shop ******************************************* April 2, 2009 Good Morning Everyone! Looks like we're going to have a nice sunny day for a change - I love it! I hope if you're quilting today you're able to stitch somewhere near a window so you can enjoy the sunshine! If not, quilting makes it's own sunshine, doesn't it?!?!? :) QFL In Full Swing! Thanks to everyone who attended our QFL Kick Off meeting last night. We had such a BLAST!!!! If you weren't able to attend but still want to join our team, just stop in the shop any time and we can get you signed up to start earning points for a chance to win 100 fat quarters, discounts, and all kinds of fun!!! Log Cabin Challenge Winners Announced! Thanks to everyone who submitted quilts for our Log Cabin Challenge. They are all so beautiful and every one of you is absolutely talented! It was wonderful having them hanging in the shop this past month - we got to enjoy them every day! Also, thanks to everyone who came in or emailed us to vote for their favorite quilt. Without you we wouldn't have winners because I would not be able to decide - I loved them all! On to the results! And the winners are (drum roll please!). . . 1st Place - #11 - Beverly Scott of Denmark 2nd Place - #3 - Roxy Selissen of Oconto 3rd Place - #2 - Lori Fleming of De Pere The winners will receive a gift certificate to the shop for $100 (1st Place), $75 (2nd Place), and $50 (3rd Place)! If you entered a quilt in the challenge, we will be taking them down today/tomorrow so you can pick them up the next time you're in. Saturday Stashbuster I think every quilter is trying to use up their stash right now and we’re going to help you! This Saturday (from 9am – 10am) we’re going to get together to learn how to “Bust out your Stash” and make beautiful quilts from it! We’ll focus on 5” squares and 2 1/2” strips and demo our new favorite notion, The Charming Strip Stashbuster Ruler. Using this ruler, you can cut a stack of fat quarters into 96 5” squares with seven cuts and have strips left for a scrappy binding! Isn’t that amazing?! We’ll showcase books and patterns that use 5” squares and 2 1/2” strips and talk about ‘planning’ a scrappy quilt. There is no fee to attend, but you do need to call ahead and reserve your spot because space is limited. Our demo will be from 9am-10am, but don’t go home after that! Bring a tote of your favorite colors from your stash, your mat and rotary cutter and stay for the rest of the day to cut and plan a scrappy quilt from one of the great books or patterns we feature during the demo. The ruler, books and patterns we feature will be specially priced during our demo. You'll get that stash used up yet! April is Double Stamp Month During the month of April you'll get double stamps on your Super Stitcher card for every Martingale & Co book you buy! So be sure to stop in and check out the new releases from March; Remembering Adelia, Fig Tree Quilts: Fresh Vintage Sewing Book, Easy Appliqué Blocks, and Free Motion Quilting Made Easy! April's new releases will come in toward the middle of the month. They are: Scrapbasket Surprises, That Patchwork Place Quilt Collection, and Super Size 'Em. 20% OFF The Book When You Buy the Kit! Don't forget that when you buy a kit that requires a book, you'll receive 20% OFF the book! Road Construction In Denmark - UPDATE! Through the end of May the main road into Denmark starting at the 4-way stop will be closed to through traffic. So if you're coming to us from I-43 you'll get to the 4-way stop and then just follow the short detour that is marked. When you get to the DETOUR sign that has you turning right onto KB, don't turn there! You're going to want to go straight and that will bring you right to our front door! You can access our parking lot if you go past our building and take the first left into the parking lot. Thanks for making us your shop of choice for your quilting and creating needs! If there's anything we can help you with, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Remembering Adelia Book by Kathleen Tracy Meet Adelia, a 19-year-old woman living in northern Illinois on the cusp of the Civil War. Her real-life diary entries record the details of daily life while war advances in the background. Her journal illustrates how central sewing and quilting were in a woman’s life during the nineteenth century. Includes period photos and 14 projects featuring nineteenth-century reproduction fabrics. Fig Tree Quilts: Fresh Vintage Sewing Book Bring fresh vintage style to your home with five great quilts and a basketful of unique projects ranging from adorable pin cushions and charming aprons to pillows and journal covers. Easy Appliqué Blocks Here’s a jam-packed block book just for appliqué lovers! Find 50 designs in traditional, modern, and whimsical styles. A bonus CD includes all the blocks in five different sizes (from 6" to 12") and in reverse (for fusible appliqué) for endless variety. From the companion CD located on the back inside cover, you’ll be able to print the blocks you’ve chosen in five different sizes: 6", 8", 9", 10", or 12". Larger sizes will automatically print out as multiple pages; just trim and tape them together and you’ll be ready to go! Plus, you can print a reversed version for those appliqué methods that require them. Your life just got easier! No flipping and tracing, figuring of percentages, or trips to the copy shop. Free-Motion Quilting Made Easy Turn simple lines into fabulous designs! Start with basic loops, ovals, diamonds, triangles, and other familiar shapes and pair them in unique combinations to create dozens of block-based designs. Step-by-step instructions, practice exercises, and loads of hints and tips make it easy to achieve great results. Now you can create your own quilting designs—they don’t have to be complicated or intricate to be effective! Let us know if you have any questions about anything! Hope to see you soon. . . *******************************************

I hope you're staying warm during this cold stretch we've been having. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are dealing with heavy rains and flooding in the Midwest from the after-math of Hurricane Ike. We have several classes going on at the shop this week as well as our continuing Anniversary Sale! There was a mistake in the newsletter on the dates for the Hand Quilting class. The correct dates are: Hand Quilting Keeping ‘old traditions’ alive is one of our goals at Kindred Spirits and part of that is going back to the ‘simple things’ in life like handwork. Betty Panten shares our passion for ‘old traditions’ and it comes through in her hand quilting. Join Betty in this class and you will learn how to transfer a quilting design to a quilt top, baste your layers together, and all the ins and outs of hand quilting! Instructions will be provided at the end of the second class to finish your hand quilted piece into a 16” pillow! Class fee: $25 + supplies Tuesday: 9/16 and 9/23 10am – 12pm - OR - Tuesday: 10/28 and 11/25 9am – 12pm I know this class is tomorrow, but it's not too late to sign up! Just give the shop a call this afternoon or early tomorrow morning. I'll be in by 9am tomorrow so feel free to call and see if we still have openings. You may even already have the items on the supply list - if not, we have everything available at the shop: 2 Fat Quarters of light fabric, a piece of low loft cotton batting the size of the fat quarters, between needles - sz 8 or 10, thimble, 10" or 14" hoop, bees wax, good quality, cotton, thread, water soluble marking pen, and self-adhesive finger pads like Thimble-It. Beginning Quilting This is a 4-week course that covers everything from picking out fabrics for the class project (what is a light, medium, and dark fabric anyway?) to proper cutting, pressing, and piecing techniques. We will square and set our blocks as well as learn the proper technique to put on borders so that your quilt lays flat! This class can be taken by a beginner quilter or someone who is ‘self-taught’ that has always felt like they wanted some more formal training to hone their skills a bit. There will be homework and you must have a machine in good working condition and know how to use it in order to take this class. Class fee: $45 + supplies Wednesdays: 09/17, 09/24, 10/01, 10/08 9am – 12pm - OR - Wednesdays: 09/17, 09/24, 10/01, 10/08 6pm – 9pm Anniversary Sale - Week 3! If not, please stop in the shop to pick up a piece or give us a call and we can mail the piece out to you. Sorry about this! I'm not sure if we left it out of all of the kits or just missed some of them! Danish Fall Festival I had two different dates in the newsletter for the The Danish Fall Festival. The correct date is Sunday, September 21st which is this Sunday! The shop will be open that day from 12pm-4pm. The Packers play Sunday night so there's plenty of time in the afternoon to come out to check out our Danish Fall Festival (which is free to attend!) and stop in to the shop! Hope to see you! I've attached a picture of the medallion style quilt - it gets one more border on it yet before it's done! I think it's absolutely GORGEOUS and can't wait to get the instructions to start working on it for club! We'll let you know when we'll be starting this club - we're hoping by November at the latest!
Change in Shop Hours Even though we have changed our Wednesday hours to close at 6pm instead of 8pm we are more than happy to stay open for you if you have a special need. Just give us a call and let us know!
