88 ½” x 107” 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. And while conflict over slavery is generally presumed to be the cause, many issues across the nation fueled tensions that ultimately led to war. The book that accompanies this block of the month does a wonderful job sharing historical accounts of these conflicts When Dolores Smith and Sarah Maxwell of Homestead Hearth found a mid-1800s antique sampler quilt, they could easily imagine the quiltmaker, Aurelia Bevins of Broome, New York, turning to her quiltmaking to take her mind off these troubling times and topics. Join us in recreating Aurelia's original 44-block sampler treasure! Featuring a fabulous cheddar print, the quilt includes machine piecing and simple appliqué. This block of the month started in January and runs 12 months with a cost of $15 per month. With the first month you will need to purchase the book for $26.95 and to ensure color continuity, the 6 yards of cheddar for $58.50, which are used in some of the blocks as well as the sashing and borders. There is also an accompanying ruler by Marsha McCloskey that is highly recommended, but not required. Civil War Chronicles
108" x 108"
Civil War histories so often focus on the military commanders who led various battles. But, who were the women married to these leaders, and what sacrifices did they endure as their husbands went off to war?
The answer can be found in Civil War Chronicles, Marcus' latest Civil War commemorative quilt project. It combines a new Judie Rothermel fabric collection of the same name with a quilt design and patterns by Homestead Hearth. With each block you will enjoy reading the unique stories of 12 generals' wives, who encountered their own struggles during the Civil War.
This block of the month started in January and runs for 12 months with a cost of $25 per month. The cost includes the pattern and binding. Saltbox Villages thru the Year

This block of the month is for all the saltbox house lovers and hand embroidery fans out there! Featuring twelve saltbox houses, one for each month of the year, this stitchery collection is super adorable all by itself, but it’s even more adorable because we’ve thrown some wool in here and there throughout the designs – too cute!
Each pattern is approximately 7 ½” x 8” and you can finish them any way you’d like – perfect for individual wall hangings or finish them into a quilt – it’s totally up to you! They would be really cute finished individually and hung in your home each month on the Ackfeld scroll stand pictured here!
This block of the month started in January and runs for 12 months at a cost of $10 per month. Your kit includes the aged muslin to do your embroidery on, the flosses needed for that month’s design, and wool if used on that month’s design.
If you’ve never done hand embroidery before, just let us know and we can give you a quick demo to get you started! It’s really quite easy and these patterns use very simple embroidery stitches and are done in the primitive style so perfection is not required! So, stop in and take a look at what we've done so far and get signed up for one of the last spots available so you can enjoy these little treasures all year long! | |
